I have trained for over 12 years and the one thing I have
learned above all else is that we make things so complicated when it comes to
our health. We won’t do the little
things that will give us long lasting vitality, but we will wake up and go
work out on an empty stomach, tired, or hung over from the night before
because we think it will burn a few extra fat calories. Well this blog is about a simple change.
DRINK MORE WATER.
This will make the biggest difference in your health. Here's why....
In the book Your Body's Many Cries for Water, Dr Batmanghelidj, MD explains that we are not sick - we are thirsty. He describes that rheumatoid arthritis, lower back pain, neck pain, anginal pain, headaches, stress and depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, excess body weight, asthma, and allergies may all be relieved with adequate hydration. I know it sounds too good to be true - but what do you have to lose by giving it a shot? It's cheap, plentiful, and harmless.
Nothing substitutes for water.
Not coffee.
Not tea.
Not sugar laced water or even worse, diet sugar laced water.
Nothing.
In my personal practice, I’ve seen many people with dehydration symptoms from acne to headaches and fatigue. I can say with no ego that as soon as they started hydrating the way they were supposed to, most of their ailments went away in the first 10 days.
Did I mention that nothing substitutes for water?
Your body WILL get its water from someplace if it is available. When you are dehydrated, your body starts looking for other sources. Not in any order - you will stop sweating; your body will recirculate your remaining water from your bladder, kidneys, joints, and intestines (feces). When it has gotten all it can from those sources, you're left with sore joints. You will have no need to urinate because you don’t have a full bladder, and no way to detoxify your body because you're constipated and you have stopped sweating.
After your body gets all the water it can from your organs, the next thing that happens is it starts taking the water from your blood. Then your heart has to start pumping thicker blood. That means it has to pump faster to get the same amount of blood to where it needs to go, and now you have high blood pressure and are hypertensive.
When you get severely dehydrated you will feel like you have a hangover. What’s actually happening is that your body is dying. No B.S. Your body is dying.
Now for the remedy: Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water per day MINIMUM. If you work out - you need to replenish even more. If you have any of the ailments listed above, you need to super hydrate for a long period of time.
For even better results, you should add a pinch of unbleached sea salt to your water so you can maintain your electrolyte balance. Not table salt - SEA SALT. Celtic Sea Salt is the best. It actually should look grey, not white. Stay hydrated and stay healthy.
